Le Weekly #111 – One One One 🌱
One quote, one word, one shoutout, one story, one neigh from Philosophical Horse and one question.
Greetings everyone. Happy Monday!
Take a deep breath. Read slowly. Pause after each section. Enjoy.
Le Quote 🗣️
“Patience pays.” – Sifiso.
Le Word 💬
patience (noun) the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious.
Le Shoutout 🧣
Yesterday, I went for a haircut.
As I arrived, all the barbers were waiting outside.
I have a personal joke with one of the guys. Whenever we see each other, we call each other ‘sir’ with as much respect and excitement as possible.
So, when I was a few metres away, Mr Sir stood up.
“Sir,” he said.
“Sir,” I replied, shaking his hand, chuckling.
After a swift haircut, I said goodbye, walked upstairs, entered the sauna, and greeted a guy with a moustache. He was young, but his moustache was dialled in.
As we sat there in the heat, we started speaking about haircuts.
“Where do you go?” I asked him.
“I go to the barber in Cavendish,” he said. “I still get student discounts there.”
“Nice,” I replied. “I sadly don’t get student discounts any more, I just get called sir.”
“Haha, someone called me sir the other day,” the guy replied. “And I’m only 24!”
I looked at him again, analysing his moustache (again).
“Brother,” I said. “It’s because you have a beautiful moustache. Being called sir just comes with the territory.”
“Fair enough,” he said.
Le Announcement 🙏🏼
I wasn’t sure whether to put this announcement at the start of this week’s newsletter or at the end, so I put it in the middle.
Over the last few months, I’ve been feeling rather burnt out (as I think we all have). Writing has been hard, and my mind/body has often felt slow. As we come to the end of the year, I’ve realised that I need to rest this body of mine and go into the new year with a fresh mind.
As 2026 approaches, I’m looking to tackle some new creative projects will require time, energy and balance, so I’ve been required to take a serious look at where my current energy is going and whether it’s sustainable.
And, after reflecting that my Sundays have consisted of writing for almost two years, turning a reset day into a semi-working day, I realised that the practice of “not relaxing on a Sunday” isn’t serving me, even though Le Weekly has been one of my favourite things ever.
As a result, after much debate and reflection, I have decided to pause Le Weekly indefinitely to rest and make space for something new.
In cricket, whenever the score hits 111, it’s a tradition for everyone in the crowd to lift their feet in the air until the score hits 112. So, in line with Le Weekly 111, I’ve realised that this is wholesome timing for me to put up my feet for a bit.
Before the pause begins, I need to thank each and every one of you who reads and supports each week. It is an honour writing to you, and it is fun sharing the everyday lessons tucked away in the mundane.
This might be a pause in Le Weekly, but it isn’t a pause in me observing the world and creating accordingly. Until next time, everyone. Thank you.
Have a blessed holiday season and all the best for the new year.
Le Editor.
Le Story ✍️
On Saturday, after watching Avatar 1 & 2 earlier this week, I went to IMAX to watch Avatar 3.
Excited, I parked my car and started walking to the cinema.
While walking, I saw Emma and Nick walking in the opposite direction.
“Braving the chaos?” Emma asked.
“Indeed,” I replied, letting them know why I was there.
“Niiiice,” she instructed.
After a quick chat, we all continued on our way.
I arrived at the cinema, found the snack line, collected my popcorn, and settled down to enjoy a very good movie.
Three hours later, after emerging from the cinema, inspired, I started walking back to my car.
Along the way, next to the docks, in front of the restaurants, there was a man playing guitar, singing.
It was late, so I almost walked straight past the man, but I decided to stop and listen instead. I nodded my head to a guy sitting on a bench nearby and he gestured for me to join him.
As I sat down, soaking up the scenes, the man looked at me.
“Do you know when I last enjoyed something nice?” he asked me.
“I’m not sure,” I responded.
“A month ago,” he said, keeping his eyes fixed on me.
I kept looking at him, unsure whether he was about to ask me for something or tell me something profound.
“I haven’t eaten nice food in a while,” he said, gesturing to the restaurants around us.
“Ah,” I thought to myself before saying to him, “I’m sorry, I can’t help tonight.”
“No, I’m not asking for anything,” he said, looking embarrassed. “I’m just saying I haven’t had anything nice in a while.”
I nodded, slowly.
“Life has been tough,” the man said before looking back at the guitarist.
I nodded, observing him, wondering what was happening.
Then, the man looked back at me and smiled.
“Patience pays,” he said.
Sifiso and I continued speaking. He told me where he is from, what he has found difficult about life, and how things always work out, no matter how hard things get.
I nodded, agreeing with him.
A few minutes later, the guitarist concluded his final song, thanked the crowd for being there, and let everyone know that he was done.
I said cheers to Sifiso, absorbed the scene one last time, and returned to my car.
*beep beep*
I unlocked the door, got into the driver’s seat, turned on the engine, and started driving home.
A new day awaits.
Le Neigh from Philosophical Horse 🐴
“Neigh?” – Philosophical Horse.
