Two weeks ago, Meg Wright shared the Japanese term called “oubaitori” in the comment section.
“Oubaitori is the notion that we all grow at our own paces, much like the peach and cherry trees blossom in their own times. Whether birds, trees, or people, our strengths lie in our differences,” she said.
Today, to celebrate Meg Wright’s birthday, I’d like to remind us all about “oubaitori.”
As we enter today, a new day, week, month, or year, remember to give yourself the grace to grow at your own pace.

Two weeks ago, while drinking coffee, Amelie kept taking sips from my dad’s cup.
“Why do you keep drinking my coffee and not yours?” my dad asked.
“Because I have tea,” Amelie responded enthusiastically.
Later, we were looking at a bird in a tree, trying to figure out what it was.
Our game guide put his binoculars down and declared, “Yellow-billed kite.”
I looked at it again, realised that it was, indeed, a Yellow-billed kite, and said, “I never take Yellow-billed kites into consideration.”
“Well, you better start,” my sister replied.
Later that evening, I was making a fire.
“Thanks for making the fire,” my dad said.
“No worries,” I replied. “I’m just practising for…”
I paused, not sure what I was practising for.
Eventually, one second later, I looked back at my dad and said:
“… the next fire I make.”

Hello for this morning, and your questions stump me. I have no idea what is in other people’s cups, unless they’re my grandchildren staying with me. No other cups matter. 😊
I have no idea what I’m practising for, other than perhaps trying to beat my grandson on our new Christmas magnet game. Not going well ☹️
