Le Quote 🗣
“Everything can teach you a lesson, you know?” – Gauthier Guchymama (while teaching us all a lesson).
Le Word 💬
lesson (noun) a period of learning or teaching.
Le Shoutout 🧣
On Saturday, Le Scarf reader Richard Freund got married to Lara Freund.
Richard planned to sing a song for Lara but wasn’t sure if he should sing.
Lara planned to raise a toast but wasn’t sure if she should toast, either.
Then, they both realised it was their wedding, and it didn’t matter if they flopped.
So, Richard sang, and Lara made a toast, and everyone in attendance loved it.
Shoutout the Freunds.
Le Story ✍️
In 2015, I learned how to weld. Then, over the next ten years, I didn’t weld once.
“I wonder if I’ll use my welding knowledge,” I frequently ask myself.
The other day, I was driving in a Prado with a stick of droëwors in my hand.
As I approached a traffic light, it turned orange and then red. When I stopped, a small boy asked for some money. Instead of money, I handed him the stick of droëwors.
The same boy had been there for a few weeks already, and each time I saw him, I wished he would spend his time doing something else.
I wished he would leave the traffic light and try to learn something. Anything.
So, realising that I could say something to him, I put my hand back in the droëwors packet, pulled some out, handed it to the boy and said, “Go do something with your life. Go learn something. Don’t sit here. If you just sit here, you will sit here for the rest of your life. Go learn something, and make sure you never sit here again.”
He said, “Sir, I just finished learning my welding.”
“What welding are you doing?” I asked. “Oxyacetylene? Tig? Mig?”
“Arc,” the boy said.
“Awesome,” I said. “That is so cool and exciting. Good luck. I hope it goes well.”
The boy smiled.
It isn’t every day that a very handsome man in a fancy car gives you a stick of droëwors; it is even rarer when he knows about welding.
