Le Quote π£
βAs long as youβre positive, youβre in the game of life.β β Oscar Chalupsky.
Le Word π¬
positive (adjective) consisting in or characterised by the presence rather than the absence of distinguishing features.
Le Shoutout π§£
Yesterday, during the Argus, a man cycled up Edinburgh Drive with music playing from his back pocket.
Everyone around him listened to the song, climbing the hill together.
A few metres away, a family stood on the side of the road with a sign.
One cyclist read it, laughed, and kept pedaling.
Then another read it, laughed, and kept pedaling.
And another.
This happened repeatedly until about 200 people had seen the sign, laughed, and continued up the hill, smiling.
Finally, I decided to read the sign myself.
It was simple but perfect:
Moral = one small sign can make thousands of people laugh.
Shoutout Mr Grandpa.
Le Snippet π
It was a beautiful Cape Town evening.
As the temperature dropped, Tony fetched a jersey for Mark from his cupboard.
As Mark put on the jersey, a musty smell floated over the table.
βEw, that smells like moth balls,β Amelie teased.
βWell, at least the insects wonβt land on me,β Mark chuckled.
Le Story βοΈ
Last week, on Monday, I woke up early to go on a run.
I considered hitting snooze, but I knew a run would set the tone for the week.
So, on the takkies went. After a few metres, I felt better.
As the sun rose, I ran through a small park.
Just off the path, a homeless man sat at a concrete table with a Vida coffee next to him and a small book in his hands.
As I approached, I slowed down.
βMorning,β I said. βWhat are you reading?β
Without speaking, he showed me the cover of a self-help book.
βDo you have a message for the day?β I asked.
He looked up, considered my question, and then said no.
I nodded appreciatively, wished him a good day, and continued my run.
I arrived at Plato Coffee and ordered the usual:
βShort black and a quote, please.β
βGot you,β Robin replied.
A few moments later, he handed me the coffee.
On the cup was written: New week, new opportunities. How you start your Monday sets the tone for the rest of the week. Embrace today with a positive mindset and watch how everything falls into place.
I said thanks, took a sip and started walking home.
On my way home, I saw the man in the park, still reading at the table.
As I got closer, he looked up.
I glanced at the cup in my hands and decided to share Robinβs message with him, too.
New week, new opportunities. How you start your Monday sets the tone for the rest of the week. Embrace today with a positive mindset and watch how everything falls into place.
βSeeing you start your day by reading and being present inspired me,β I said.
βThank you,β he said with a small nod.
I nodded back, stepped back on the path and ran home.
βI helped a man climb a mountain and found that I too had reached the top.β
Le Neigh from Philosophical Horse π΄
βNeigh.β β Philosophical Horse.
