Le Quote π£
βIf you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.β β Liz Labuschagne.
Le Word π¬
innovate (verb) make changes in something established, especially by introducing new methods, ideas, or products.
Le Shoutout π§£
This weekend, I invited Clare Jeffery for dinner.
I was once Clareβs neighbour and felt compelled to catch up with her.
While cooking, I asked her how her grandson was doing.
βHeβs great,β she said. βHe loves gaming but always complains about the WiFi.β
To help improve the internet for her grandson, Clare upgraded the line speed; however, despite the upgrade, the internet didnβt improve.
βI phoned the body corporate to ask if others were experiencing the same problems, but no one was,β she said.
Finally, Clare asked a guy called Dylan to help her.
The moment Dylan stepped inside, he pointed at something in the corner.
βThatβs it,β Dylan said.
Clareβs eyes followed his.
At the end of his gaze and at the end of his pointed finger, the WiFi router stared back at them.
βThatβs your problem,β he said.
Despite Clare upgrading her internet line, it was the router itself that couldnβt handle the speed.
Le Snippet π¬
Yesterday, I ran to Plato for a morning coffee.
βDouble espresso,β the barista said (stating, not asking).
βPowerful,β I replied.
*coffee machine sounds*
βHere you go,β he said and gave me a coffee cup without a quote on it.
βNo quote today?β I asked.
Bradley, the other barista, looked at Robin in shock.
βAi Robin,β Bradley said.
I gave Bradley the cup and said, βJust write one (1) word on it.β
After a few minutes, Bradley returned the cup.
On it was written one word:
Innovate.
βJoh,β he said. βOne word was harder than writing a quote.β
It took a while for innovateβs meaning to land, but when it did, I appreciated it.
To me, it says, βIf something isnβt working, donβt stop; just change the way youβre doing it; add something new.β
Le Story βοΈ
Clare is a Le Scarf Hall of Famer for many reasons, but her famous induction happened in 2022 when Le Blogue #2 was released. In those pages, I shared a story about Rose Bushes. Clare used to water the garden where I stayed, and while watering the garden, she would water my mind with inspiration and life lessons, too. To honour Clareβs WiFi-router-inspired life lesson above, I bring βPrun Your Rosebushβ back from the archives for you to enjoy this week.
Written in 2022
The other day, while parking, I noticed the beautiful rosebush planted next to my parking spot had no flowers. It had no leaves either!
It had been pruned.
The same thing happened last year. I returned home to the skeletal remains of a bush that looked far beyond recovery.
Yet, a few months later, the bush was in full bloom again.
Clare, the resident gardener in our complex, proves month in and month out that she does, indeed, have green fingers. The prune inflicted on the poor rose bush always looks FAR too aggressive, yet the rose bush always bounces back better than before.
Apparently, without the prune, the rose bush wouldnβt be so extraordinarily beautiful.
Here lies the simple life lesson of the day. Just like the rose bush, we all need a prune every now and then.
More importantly, we need to trust the process.
As Rick Rubin says, sometimes we need to reduce in order to produce.
Le Neigh from Philosophical Horse π΄
βNeigh.β β Philosophical Horse.
Le Question π€
Is your WiFi router the right one for your internet speed?
Have a powerful Monday, everyone.
Remember to send this to someone who finds meaning in lifeβs smallest moments.
Clare is the reason my parents decided to keep trying to have more children, knowing that their run of bad luck couldn't last. When I duly arrived on the scene, they smiled (in relief).
May the Body Corporate continue to persevere, knowing that this too shall pass.
Her loving brother.
