Le Quote π£
βSometimes there will be a gap where things donβt feel like theyβre happening, but keep following.β β Luckson of Plato.
Le Word π¬
piano (adjective) performed softly.
Le Shoutout π§£
On Saturday, I walked into a music store with a particular red keyboard in mind.
The plan was simple: walk in, buy the red keyboard, walk out.
But, upon entering, another keyboard (the FP-10) caught my attention.
It was black and had keys that felt more like a traditional piano than a keyboard.
So, when the shop assistant came over, I asked his advice.
He smiled.
βIf I had to buy anything piano-related in this shop, it would be that,β he said, pointing to the FP-10.
βYes, you have to pay R3,000 more for it now,β he continued, βBut it means you won't have to upgrade later.β
βAlso, because of the way the keys feel like real piano keys, you wonβt feel as intimidated when you finally find yourself behind an actual piano later on,β he concluded.
βCool, letβs do it,β I said.
He went to the back, put a new FP-10 on a trolley, and returned.
My car was parked quite far away, so I told him not to worry about the trolley; Iβd carry it myself.
βNo, donβt worry, these are awkward to carry alone,β he said.
So, after asking where my car was, we trundled off on our mini-quest together.
(Like Lord of the Rings, but instead of a ring, it was a keyboard on a trolley).
For the first hundred metres, we chatted about the weather.
For the second hundred metres, we chatted about life.
For the third hundred metres, we chatted about being almost-thirty.
For the fourth hundred, he started sweating lightly under the sun.
Eventually, he chuckled.
βI shouldβve just waited at the shop for your car,β he said, before reassuring me that he was joking; it was good being outside.
But, true, in hindsight, it would have been easier if I had gone and fetched my car alone, but then we wouldn't have had the opportunity to get to know each other like we did, and Dylan was great.
Shoutout Mr Dylan.
Le Story βοΈ
Later that evening, I visited my dad for dinner.
βI bought a piano,β I said. βWhat song would you like me to learn for you?β
Immediately, he mentioned two Nina Simone songs, one of which was Good Bait.
With his iPad linked to the speaker system, we started listening to it.
Good Bait was incredible. From the moment it started, I got excited to try and learn it.
In the excitement, we started speaking about why it is such a good song, and in speaking about why it is so good, we stopped listening.
Thankfully, before it was too late, my dad said, βWait, let's listen. How people finish songs is so important.β
So, we let the song finish.
And, the ending?
It was incredible.
Le Neigh from Philosophical Horse π΄
βNeigh?β β Philosophical Horse.
