Recipe: Scrambled Exposure
Learn to prioritise yourself and understand your worth. If you accept payment in exposure, you will be worth payment in exposure.

IT CAN BE EMBARRASSING to consider the lengths to which we undervalue ourselves.
Sometimes we undervalue ourselves SO MUCH that we diminish our value just for…online exposure.
I found myself at Woolworths the other day when the teller asked how I’d like to pay.
“I just featured on [local brand]’s social media page. Will that be enough?” I asked.
“No,” she replied.
Correct answer, but please allow me to cry quickly if that’s okay.
I vividly remember joining Facebook in 2007. I was always the first of my friends to hop onto the latest trend. I was always up to date with the in-thing. I was so cool (I thought). Facebook was so cool (I thought). Little did I know, my daily adventure online would help create today’s global influencer revolution.
Nowadays, it’s normal to utilise social media to monetise your personal brand. We take selfies, sell our faces, receive free products and attend events in the hopes of being seen. If supermarkets DID accept payment in exposure, we’d all be alright.
But they don’t.
Anyway, back to the Woolworths till: I pulled out my hard-earned black card (monetised by my actual, real-world corporate day job) and swiped. I swiped in honour of everyone still learning to say no to exposure-based payment.
