Letter from Le Editor: “If you can, why not.”
For some reason, this episode of Le Blogue was tough to compile, design and print. After the launch of Le Blogue #1 at the end of last year, creative doubt overwhelmed the “why” of Le Blogue’s entire existence.
Le Blogue #1 proved what it set out to prove: people do, indeed, perceive internet content differently when it’s printed on paper.
“So, why, then, should Le Blogue #2 be created?” I asked myself while eating tuna and rice from a mixing bowl alone in my flat.
Suddenly, a copy of Le Blogue #1 burst into flames next to me! The paper burned slowly, inch by inch, until only the words “IF YOU CAN” were left.
“IF YOU CAN”.
I dropped my fork into the mixing bowl, took a small breath, and uttered the knife-like words of clarity: “why not.”
If you can, why not.
Inspired, I shone Le Bat Signal into the sky, gathered the hodge-podge group of creative superheroes together once more and published what you’re reading right now.
I hope you enjoy.
Moving to Cape Town
by Le Editor
I had coffee with my friend the other day. We wanted to see each other once more before he left for the UK (the vacuum cleaner that seems to target my friend group).
I asked him: What is one thing you started doing since moving to Cape Town that you want to continue doing in London?
Priceless
by Cath Del Monte
Last year, Dan Mace (South African Film Director & YouTuber) took to the streets of Cape Town to find the city’s hidden talent. His method of doing so? A spontaneous low-budget talent show. Armed with a trestle table, makeshift sign, camera, and mic, he set out on his mission.
Giuliette Price was on her way to work when a friend alerted her to Mace’s talent auditions. In the audition line, Price met a rapper, Chad Samuels (AKA C.H.A.D).
Prune Your Rosebush
by Mike Wright (Taken from Le Vault)
I live in Newlands. The other day, while parking, I noticed the beautiful rosebush planted next to my parking spot had no flowers. It had no leaves either! It had been pruned.
Le Pen Is King
by Alex Dickie
I feel an urge of creativity….
Fit in. Be different.
by Philosophical Horse
Neigh. Everyone wants to be different.
I was thinking the other day: Are all my personal differences equal in importance?
Why Fashion Matters
by Kimberley Schoeman
If you type the words “fashion” and “philosophy” into Google, the first few results (three hundred million) present a golden thread: We as individuals develop and evolve a uniquely personal style that mirrors the evolution of our interior identity.
Intrusive Thoughts
by Cher Petersen
It seems like mental health has taken a front seat for a change. Many workspaces, friend groups and families are taking it more seriously than before. Even so, no matter how seriously others take mental health, we don’t consider the sneak attacks our own past traumas (unhealed wounds and unprocessed scars) may prompt when least expected.
Introducing: intrusive thoughts.
Compost your Compost
by Mike Wright
The 4WKS Coffee team packs freshly roasted coffee into compostable coffee capsules with a quiet passion. While chatting to Oli Pretorius, co-founder of 4WKS Coffee, one sentiment stood out: A product is only compostable if the consumer actually composts it.
Musique Review
by Cath Del Monte
Limpopo’s Chymamusique really blew the house down at the 28th South African Music Awards (SAMAs) with his third studio album, Musique.
The soulful house musician won Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best Dance Album.
Get focused, feel great, and relax to Musique. Here’s how.
Rearview Mirrors: People of Passion
by Mike Wright
I studied journalism accidentally, edited Afrikaans news videos for an Afrikaans newspaper and then, suddenly, found myself in the daytime television industry. For two years, we listened to people share their various stories for the camera.
Some people were successful. Some people were passionate. Some people were successful and passionate.
That’s it for this month!
If you enjoyed this episode, please help us print the next.
Danko everyone x
Le Editor.
Another lekker compilation of inspiring words, stories, and real-life observations. A real and honest paper with good intentions. Nice work.
