Le Word π¬
rest (verb) cease work or movement in order to relax, sleep, or recover strength.
Le Shoutout π§£
Richard is a security guard. He spends his days greeting people and ensuring everything is in order.
The other day, he agreed to answer some in-person interview questions for a marketing project while he surveyed his buildingβs entrance hall.
We discussed his purchasing habits, why he chooses certain brands, what allows him to trust a product, what type of media he consumes, what hobbies he has, etc.
After about half an hour, I asked whether he was happy with his income.
βYes, but also no,β he began.
βNo, because I do more than what Iβm paid to do. Yes, because I really like my job and have a good work environment,β he said.
βItβs not all about money β as long as you feel happy where you work. If you just think about money, you wonβt go far. You can make R100k, but youβre still going to die. I take life every day as it comes. I enjoy where I work, and Iβm still standing up, so Iβm happy. Not many people see it the same way.β
Thatβs some mental security from a lovely neighbourhood guard.
Shoutout Richard.
Le Story βοΈ
Last week, I walked outside and looked at the mountain. All I saw was the mountain.
Then, I looked at the plants right in front of me. All I saw were the plants right in front of me.
Then, I looked at the street light between the plants and the mountain. On the light, a beautiful harrier-hawk was just sitting there, minding its business. I thoroughly enjoyed the sight.
After a few minutes, I went back inside.
Later that day, I walked outside again and looked at the street light where the harrier-hawk had been. Sadly, it was no longer there. All I saw was the light.
So, I looked at the mountain, and all I saw was the mountain.
Then, I looked at the plants right in front of me. On one of the leaves, there was a butterfly. It was just sitting there, minding its business, and I thoroughly enjoyed the sight.
After a few minutes, I went back inside (until it came time for me to go outside again).
This story has no conclusion.

In the complex where we live, there are 3 natural habitats for the beautiful monarch butterfly and they are carefully preserved despite sometimes needing quite drastic interventions. The butterflies always adapt. Thus it is the stories donβt always have to have conclusionsβ¦..just appreciative updates. π
If we donβt necessarily appreciate our circumstances in the moment simply for what they are, we can always look to the beautiful possibilities that environment holds for us - be it a harrier-hawk on a street light or emotional growth through a difficult time. That in itself is beautiful, I think. (PS Iβve thoroughly enjoyed how many butterflies Iβve seen since moving to the southern suburbs! π₯Ή)
