Le Quote 🗣
“I’m happy. I’m very happy. No, I’m more than happy; I’m inquisitive.” – Coach Fez.
Le Word 1 💬
inquisitive (Oxford Dictionary’s version) having or showing an interest in learning things; curious.
Le Word 2 💬
inquisitive (Coach Fez’s Version) a state of being that transcends happiness; more than happy.
Editor note: While Coach Fez’s innocent mistranslation made me smile, his error highlighted the fact that he knows a whole entire other language that I don’t.
Le Shoutout 🧣
Last year, Bishops hosted Batshise FC for a friendly game of soccer. The final score was 4-0 to Bishops.
Last week, a year later, Bishops hosted Batshise again. The final score was 2-1 to Batshise.
This year’s friendly game was all thanks to Jarred Bradley. Jarred didn’t have to organise a re-match, but he did. He even organised a post-game braai and floodlights to play under.
As Coach Fez says, “When you talk about Bishops, you see happy faces.”
Shoutout Jarred.
Le Story ✍️
With boerewors rolls in hand, everyone sat down to enjoy the post-match atmosphere.
It was cold, windy and dark, yet the ice-cold Cokes went down quickly.
While watching the scenes, Coach Fez looked at me and smiled.
“I’m happy,” he said. “I’m very happy. No, I’m more than happy; I’m inquisitive.”
I turned to Coach Fez and smiled back. It was very wholesome indeed, and I also felt inquisitive.
After a while, it was time to leave. The Batshise FC team bus (a taxi) was waiting to return to Delft. Everyone said goodbye before heading in different directions.
Boom, and then the floodlights turned off, plunging everyone around the field into darkness.
I was parked on the opposite side of the field. By the time I got to my vehicle, the Batshise boys were singing happily next to their team bus as they changed out of their playing kit into fresh clothes.
The sky was black. Before turning on my engine, I sat in the driver’s seat and soaked everything in. The trees swayed slightly as the team’s singing floated in from across the field. Then it dawned on me. The entire evening, everything everyone just experienced together, could all be pinned to one moment two years ago: when Coach Fez approached me in the gym’s parking lot with a request for help.
As they say, “Knock and the door shall be opened up to you.”
Fez knocked.
Le New Merch 🔥
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s very exciting to announce that Batshise x Le Scarf lives on for another year!
New season. New shirts. Now with ROUND necks (available in blue and cream), the limited batch of shirts is officially on Le Store 👕
Profits from each shirt will go to Batshise FC in the form of things Coach Fez has asked for, mainly balls.
“I don’t want money because people are corrupt; I only want the things the team needs,” he says.
Le Neigh from Philosophical Horse 🐴
“Neigh.” – Philosophical Horse.
Le Question 🤔
What door do you need to knock on today? What knock do you need to answer?
Have a great Monday, everyone!
