Le Quote π£
βNo, Iβm not featuring in your next newsletter.β β Michael Henning.
Le Word π¬
laugh (verb) the sound you make when Michael Henning is around.
Le Shoutout π§£
Whenever you see Michael Henning, he will always make you laugh. Itβs a rare gift.
Even rarer, he can make you laugh no matter your mood.
Even rarer, he can make you laugh no matter his mood.
Last night, Michael was at Virgin Active around 19h00. A late-night Sunday session represents a last-ditch attempt to get on top of whatever youβre not feeling on top of so that Monday can roll around more easily.
And yes, I saw Michael there because I was there. And yes, I was there because I also needed to get on top of whatever I wasnβt feeling on top of. But, luckily for me, Michael was there.
I walked out of the gym feeling much better.
Shoutout Michael.
Le Story βοΈ
I have always been interested in political posters. They are a hugely overlooked component of any partyβs election campaign and often serve as the only political touchpoint for many citizens before an election.
In fact, I feel so strongly about political posters that I once sent Herman Mashaba a 7-page document saying, βI implore that you do not overlook the simplicity of my suggestions.β
So, when the idea of making parody political posters appeared in my mind last month, I thought Iβd put my money where my mouth was and whip them up.
Inspired by the straightforward 2019 EFF poster campaign, I got cracking. Within an hour, Le Scarfβs enormous political candidate (who filled the entire photo studio) had a four-legged campaign to lean on.

More yay less neigh.
[Blank] β (actions speak louder than words).
Once the digital posters were created, I printed them. Once printed, I bought cardboard and glue. Once glued, I propped them against my wall to dry.
And then, as the posters were drying, it hit me: These posters donβt represent Le Scarfβs new direction. Neigh. These posters represent Le Scarfβs old direction, which I want to graduate from. For some reason, thanks to years of experience, I seem to be hardwired to create slapstick comedy despite not wanting to create slapstick comedy anymore.
As a result, I decided not to put the posters up in the streets because doing so would do Le Scarf injustice.
So, as the posters dried against my wall, knowing they would never see the light of day, they stared at me, ghosts of a plan that almost happened.
Until yesterday.
The only way to get rid of the ghost of an unfinished plan is to finish the plan. With strange levels of nervousness and dread, I attached cable ties to each poster, walked outside with my mother alongside me (so that I didnβt look like a mad person), and put the posters up.
Once they were up, we walked back inside.
The ghost of my unfinished plan had found peace.

Bonus Quotes π£
βConfidence is the best gift you can give someone.β
βYou gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, βI have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.β You must do the thing you think you cannot do.β β Eleanor Roosevelt.
Le Question π€
Who gives you confidence whenever you see them, and have you let them know?

Eleanor was onto something. Itβs not the knocks that shape us, but rather how we respond to them. Sometimes good thinks have to break down so that great things can be built. Without a doubt, my oldest friend Shani never ceases to build my confidence. Having become friends at dance class in 2008, sheβs seen and loved my every iteration. This was a great reminder for me to thank her!
