Le Weekly #35 – Cockroach Monitor 🪳
One quote, one word, one shoutout, one story, one neigh from Philosophical Horse and one question.
Greetings everyone. Happy Monday!

Le Quote 🗣
“Life is wonderful isn’t it.” – Sam Holmes.
Le Word 💬
life (noun) the period between the birth and death of a living thing, especially a human being.
Le Shoutout 🧣
A month ago, several (four) Le Scarf posters mysteriously appeared around Rondebosch before election day.
The posters campaigned for Philosophical Horse as “Nayor”.
Sadly, Philosophical Horse received zero votes.
Nevertheless, as the election posters came down, a local Rondebosch musician from the band Coasters contacted Le Scarf in hopes that he could have one.
“Of course,” was the answer.
A few weeks later, the poster arrived with Luke Verrezen, its new owner. After a quick chat, Luke seemed awesome. Knowing the poster is on Luke’s wall (instead of being stashed away in Le Flat) is awesome.
Shoutout Luke. Thanks for asking!
Le Winner Winner 🍗
After dropping the poster off with Luke, an idea sprung to mind:
“Why not let someone else win one of the other posters?”
As a result, a competition was posted on Le Scarf’s Instagram page.
The rules were simple:
Comment “neigh”.
Tag someone.
After a few hours, the neighs came flying in, and the names were slotted into a random winner generator:
After a successful random generation, I can excitedly announce we have a winner.
Drumroll, please. And cymbals.
Lia Snijman, congratulations, good ma’am! See you when you get back from Canada.
Thanks to everyone who entered!!
Editor note: “Caneighda”? (Meg Wright, let me know if the pun passes).
Le Story ✍️
Last week, while at an undisclosed coffee shop, I was pouring myself a glass of water when a cockroach scuttled past.
“Cockroach,” I said to the waitress while pointing to the cockroach.
“Ai, these guys,” the waitress said, moving some plates aside to see it for herself.
Before the waitress could get to it, the cockroach fled into a triangular cardboard tube.
“It’s there,” I said while pointing to the tube.
“Ah, no, don’t worry,” the waitress said. She reached behind the coffee machine and picked the tube up. Inside the tube, about ten cockroaches stared back at me, stuck to the tube’s adhesive floor.
Holding the tube, she looked at me, looked at the tube and said, “Cockroach monitor.”
Next to the waitress, the barista started laughing.
“Ah, Mike,” he chuckled, “If you don’t look at the cockroaches, you won’t see them.”
The waitress put the tube back, nestling it behind the coffee machine.
I stopped looking at the cockroaches, and, as a result, I stopped seeing them.
Eish, fair enough. That’s some questionable yet Golden advice.
Le Neigh from Philosophical Horse 🐴
“Neigh.” – Philosophical Horse.
Le Question 🤔
Do you focus on the cockroaches or the [everything else that is good about the coffee shop] in life?
Have a great Monday, everyone!

Caneighda? I’ll allow it. But it’s the queen’s desideratum that Lia’s poster prize be celebrated at the nearest BeaverTeighls pastry shop 🍩🍁🇨🇦
Cockroaches have now expanded to quite frequent parliamentary use, not exactly sure in the correct context. ….. because of this, I’m taking the liberty of thinking about this question for the week. IF I find one in my home, I might very quickly announce my repulsion for these critters.
