Le Quote π£
*live on 5FM*
Noni Radebe: βJames, what are three things you donβt leave your house without?β
James Booth: βA good attitude, my phone, and a reason to make a difference.β
Le Word π¬
story (noun) an account of past events in someone's life.
Le Shoutout π§£
I meet a lot of people in the sauna.
Last year, I met a man who seemed like a good person. He became my barber.
Two years ago, I met another man who told me he owned a printing company. After years of telling him I would use his printing company one day, I finally used it last week for a project that will be out this week.
Six months ago, I met a man who requested my number so that he could share a poem with me. The poem went as follows:
A smile costs nothing, but gives much.
It enriches those who receive, without making poorer those who give.
It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it,
And none is so poor that he cannot be made rich by it.
A smile creates happiness in the home,
Fosters good will in business,
And is the countersign of friendship.
It brings rest to the weary,
Cheer to the discouraged,
Sunshine to the sad,
And it is natureβs best antidote for trouble.
Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen,
For it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away.
Some people are too tired to give you a smile.
Give them one of yours,
As none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give.
There have been so many similar interactions, and I look forward to many more.
Shoutout The Sauna.
Le Story βοΈ
Yesterday morning, I woke up and realised I still didnβt have a story for this weekβs Le Story, and I realised there was only one thing I could do: get out of bed, exist in the world, and experience a story for myself.
First stop: Book club.
Mia du Toit recently started a wholesome book club that meets on Sundays once a month. This month, I only managed to get through 5 pages of my assigned book. Every time I tried to read over the past month, I fell asleep. So, when it was my turn to speak about the book I was meant to have finished, I explained how I wished I had managed to get through the introductory pages without sleeping so that I could get to the book itself sooner.
βHmm,β I mused. βWorking through the boring stuff efficiently so the exciting part begins sooner? That sounds like a Le Weekly story, doesnβt it?β
Sadly, I realised moments later that there werenβt enough golden nuggets in that lesson to share with you all.
So, the book club adjourned, and I still didnβt have a story.
Next up, I was due to go to the Waterfront. As I walked in, I saw 16 adults standing around on their phones. I couldnβt believe it. We were in the middle of the Waterfront, and these people were standing staring at their screens. Dismayed by our technological world, I continued walking forward. As I walked through the 16-person herd, I saw what was on their screens. It turns out they werenβt aimlessly staring at their phones; no, this was a Pokemon Go gathering, and the group was engaged in a Sunday social event. I had fully misjudged them.
βHmm,β I mused. βLearning to get the full story before judging someone? That sounds like a Le Weekly story, doesnβt it?β
Sadly, I realised moments later that there werenβt enough golden nuggets in that lesson to share with you all, so I continued.
After walking through the Pokemon Squad, I went to buy some moisturiser. When I entered the shop, I noticed my favourite cologne had changed bottles.
βAh, when did they change the bottle?β I asked the staff member.
βAbout six months ago!β she said.
βYoh, I really liked the old one,β I said.
βDonβt worry,β she said, βIt is still the same inside.β
βHmm,β I mused. βIt is still the same insideβ¦ That sounds like a Le Weekly story, doesnβt it?β
Sadly, I realised moments later that there werenβt enough golden nuggets in that lesson to share with you all.
So, I continued moving. I walked into Sportsmanβs Warehouse and had a wholesome interaction with the team there. I drove home, saw my mom, went to Woolies to buy some food, and then went to the gym. At each point in my day, I had a moment-worthy moment that just couldnβt be shared with you in the form of Le Story.
But that is the story in itself, isnβt it? Life exists out there. If we want to write Le Story, we must put on our shoes, drive to the metaphorical Waterfront, and experience it.
