Le Quote π£
βAs long as I work, no one can stop me.β β Coach Fez.
Le Word π¬
prepare (verb) make (someone) ready or able to do or deal with something.
Le Shoutout π§£
About three months ago, Jack Graham and I agreed to run the Gun Run in 90 minutes for fun.
We already knew we could run far, so we just needed to learn how to run fast.
To train, we met up at a local sports field to sprint some laps.
The following week, we did the same thing.
Then, everything went banana-shape: Jack entered a tough exam period, and I pulled my hamstring, so our training paused (and never resumed).
Still, we were determined to try our best come race day.
βItβs just in the mind,β we agreed.
So, yesterday, we arrived at the Gun Run all guns blazing. With two bananas, four energy gels, and an appropriate amount of delusion, we set off.
The crowds were thick.
The corners were tight.
We were in the race.
But, unfortunately, despite a powerful morning of running, we didnβt manage to keep our pace.
Iβm thankful, though. It means running 21km in 90 minutes is hard, so it will feel that much more rewarding next year when we do manage to cross the line in time.
The lesson learned? You need to prepare properly for difficult things in life.
Weβll be back. Shoutout Jack.
Also, shoutout to Justin Heunis, Matthew Carruthers, and Cam van Rensburg for running the Gun Run in Le Scarf shirts!
Le Story βοΈ
Last Thursday, I walked into Vida for an early morning coffee.
At the door sat two Elwierda bus drivers.
βMorning,β I said. βWhere are you off to today?β
βRustenberg,β one driver responded.
(Rustenburg is 14 hours and 43 minutes away from Cape Town)
βThatβs far,β I said.
βAnd you?β the other driver asked.
βSalt River,β I said, smiling because my journey paled in comparison.
Despite the big day ahead, the drivers looked very calm and collected as they drank their pre-trip coffee.
βEnjoy the journey,β I said before sitting down at the table next to them.
I picked up my coffee, took a sip, and looked out the window.
There, 50m away, two Elwierda buses were parked outside Rustenburg Girls' Junior School.
Le Neigh from Philosophical Horse π΄
βNeigh.β β Philosophical Horse.

Well, my bestie Sohana and I are both busy people. We agreed that Sunday breakfast in Pjβs would be fun. I offered to drive to her in pjβs and pantoffels. Quite a distance between our homes.
With no room for drama on the way there or back, (for reasons of personal dignity) it was a risk.
It was great fun. No drama en routeβ¦.
