Le Quote π£
βBefore you know it, you know it.β β Jack (barista).
Le Word π¬
know (verb) be aware of through observation, inquiry, or information.
Le Shoutout π§£
Running a business is hard.
Running a restaurant is hard.
Being a chef is hard.
Being a beast is hard.
Yet Ben Bettendorf does it all.
Ben has slowly built Obi Restaurant into an iconic spot. His secret recipe? Moving boldly, being patient, and having fun.
Last week, he decided to release some merch. It wasnβt a money-making move; he simply wanted to make merch. So, when the shirts turned out great, Ben was happy before heβd even sold any.
The lesson we can learn from him this week is to have fun in whatever we do.
It doesnβt have to be all the time, just everyΒ nowΒ andΒ then.
Shoutout Ben.
Le Story βοΈ
For this story, it helps if you know who Tendai βBeastβ Mtawarira is.
(See below).
On Saturday, after a Promenade trot with Richard Freund, I returned to my car.
On approach, the car guard looked me up and down and said, βYouβre rugby player.β
βNot rugby. Hockey,β I responded.
He looked me up and down again, saying, βIt looks like you play rugby. Nice and strong.β
βDanko,β I responded, appreciative of the compliment. βI try.β
He looked me up and down again, analysed my physique, paused, confirmed his analysis, smiled, and said, βBeast Mtawarira.β
I couldnβt help but chuckle on the spot.
Iβd love to know what made Mr Car Guard think I looked like Tendai Mtawarira.
Maybe it wasnβt a direct comparison; maybe Mr Car Guard thinks everyone looks like Beast Mtawarira.
Maybe the Mr Car Guard knows everyone is Beast Mtawarira.
If that is the case, then you are Beast Mtawarira, too.
If that is the case, then we have the responsibility of being Beast Mtawarira.
So, letβs go out there today, hold our heads high, keep our shoulders back, breathe through our noses, and be the best Beast Mtawariras we can possibly be.
^ you, me and everyone.

I am DEFINTELY a beast granny! I got Nico to school on time, Monday morning 7.30am, tackling 3 nearby school traffics plus collecting his cricket shoes en route, with no make up. Or coffee. Yo! That's awesome....
Iβm lucky in that my job *is* fun. I get to work with people I consider dear friends, who share my sense of humour and drive for positive change - so there will always be at least one chuckle and one βhappy heartβ moment daily π«Ά
